Team Dinner

This whole week, our (temp) global team lead, Kim Le, is here... so dah arrange dah nak dapat makan free on Tue night. Lagipun, Karen Edwards, our team member from UK, is here from Mon to Wed only.

So, it's been arranged that we hav dinner at Miami Beach... yupp again! for me but then I can try other menu... and yes, this time I ordered spicy Spare Ribs (thanks to Niza for the heads-up)... memang best! Tapi tu lah, lupa nak ambik gambar la pulak!

Anyway, here are the team members from EU & UK, with Kim from US and moi, representing the team from KL.

From left: Karen Edwards, Wim Meijnin, Kim Le, Wouter-Jan and me

Anyway, the best is when each of us, refusing to talk about work!, tells each other a little bit more about him/herself.... when (s)he started working in Shell, and hobbies, etc

Wim:
Believe it or not, WIm is close to retiring next year, in March, and he's been in Shell for 37 years! A lot of experience in different businesses....

He's married with 2 kids (a pair - and who's already 31 & 29 themselves)... he's got one grandchild and another one coming. His wife is a speech therapist.... and his hobbies include oil painting, music (he plays the cello, guitar and.... ooops, forgot!)

Wouter:
Wouter is around late 40's - joined Shell some time in 1986 (I think) and along the way, he's been in the same team with Wim for a quite number of years... so you can see that these two are confortable with each other in their own way.

Wouter has a long-term girlfriend (who also works in Shell HR - though another company) and has mobile home.... so it's quite obvious that one of his favourite pastimes is travelling!!!

Karen:
She's been with Shell since late 80's, I believe, and her father used to work in Shell US... so she has a bit of a US-slang "peanut butter"... for a Brit!. Mainly in IT-related work but is now the only resource in UK (for MI).

She's not yet married but has a green house that she loves doing over free time. She also enjoys live music so has been too numerous concerts.... and travelling is another favourite.... She usually travels with a friend who is now in Australia, so it's quite funny that she needs at least half a year to plan for next year's holiday!

Kim:
Kim went to US initially to further her studies in 1986. She's originally from Vietnam... and after the historic war, she was later brought into US... In her first term, she was having history class and a few more uninteresting subjects and on the first day, she couldnt understand what her lecturers was saying... but went back and told herself that she would excel.... got permission to record the lectures and read the chapter one day ahead of the class... and voila, she got straight A's in her first semester...

Then started with Shell in 80's and until now, have been travelling to a few Shell locations for work.

Not married yet but usually spends time walking and on her treadmill around 45 mins/ day! No wonder she doesnt look 52!!

Me.....
I am the "baby" in terms of the number of years in Shell (permanent only since 2003) and in age.... but I have my own experience to share - all my SAP implementation experiences since R2... and moving from Finance, Plant Maintenance (at one point), Warehouse Management and then to BW!

But all makes up an interesting lot to work with!!!
